2024 Gardens

Garden 1. Willow Vale

A tranquil garden, nestled below towering gums, combining natural bushland with formal elements there is lots to inspire.

A stoned lined creek and waterfall tumbles into a large pond at the front of the house. The owner's studio is nestled among shrubs to the side. A formal rose garden with lavender leads to the rear where a natural path meanders below gum trees and native plants enjoyed by the resident wombats.

Garden 2. White Gables

As you enter through the formal gate on the drive, there are little snippets of fun which hint of what is to come. Birds, ceramic, metal, quirky and realistic, are dotted throughout the garden. A little cluster of plants with a china-plate border, garden names  artfully painted on signs.

Clipped pots of pittosporum line one side of the drive, the other side has azaleas. One side of the house, with views over the surrounding bush, has open space with lawn, the other is densely planted with shrubs and flowers. It is a delightful combination.

Garden 3. Belmore Lodge

A large pond and the watercourse that flows through it is the main feature of this 3 ace garden. The water and native plantings of bottle brush, tea-trees, banksia and Lilli Pilli attract a multitude of birds and wildlife.

The park-like grounds with its groupings of trees has seats placed strategically around it to sit and contemplate the sweeping vistas down the gentle slope to the house. Reeds and tall strappy grasses border the stone-lined pond. More formal plantings of flowering shrubs and perennials surround the house with a central courtyard garden protected by the house.

Garden 4. Jean Flora

Space and large-scale planting are the main features of this 10-acre garden, while the other half of the property is still native bush stretching into Morton National Park.

Densely planted formal beds lead to the front door, with a formal water feature and paving behind the house. Grassy vistas disappearing into the bush fill the view wherever you look beyond the house.

An avenue of silver maples runs from the house to the dam, lines of trees border the drive and throughout, trees are clustered together to increase the appreciation of their beauty.

Garden 5.

Small packages often contain surprising gems, and this garden is just such a gem. It is packed with a multitude of cameos from the time you enter the wonderland through the lychgate that is set in the middle of a white picket fence.

Follow the brown brick road past the large maple with the hanging baubles, view sculptures, perennials, shrubs and flowers on the way. Continue down the side of this characterful, country cottage, past more sculptures, hydrangeas and a wealth of flowers. The garden opens to reveal a little studio at the bottom of the garden and views of the national park in the distance.

Garden 6. Grey Gums
A large stand of tall, stately, grey gums give this one acre garden its name. Beneath the eucalypts, garden beds meander. Filled with natives and exotics, shrubs and small trees with an abundance of flowers, they delight the senses. Nestled under the trees, an  informal seating area – the perfect place to enjoy a drink on a spring or summer evening.

The trees flow down the property to a stone-lined creek, bordered by tree ferns and water-loving plants, bisecting the property. A lovely little Impressionist-style bridge carries you into more formal planting around the house and leads to the vegetable garden and chook house.

Garden 7.
Once part of an old dairy, the original milking shed has been converted into ‘Plum Cottage’, for guests, and now sits beside the main house. Both are surrounded by an abundantly planted garden. Paths meander amongst shrubs, flax, small trees and bulbs on the steep slope that rises from the road.

A walk up the driveway will bring you to a mostly level site, hosting masses of trees, shrubs and flowers, with garden ornaments placed for contemplation and with magnificent views over Morton National Park. What started as a sparsely planted garden has evolved over the last 20 years, blossoming to fill the space of just over an acre with myriad varieties of interest to garden lovers.
