Fern Creek is a property of 3.5 acres and was purchased in October 2009 as a vacant block covered in thick patches of blackberry and scotch broom.

“I have spent many laborious hours slowly clearing the weeds which provided plenty of time to daydream about what I wanted to create (and wondering if I was mad!). My favourite proverb is “The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago, the second best time is now,” so I took it literally and planted my first 20 trees ASAP.

Major gardening didn¹t start until late 2015 after I moved into a relocated 100year old cottage. Plantings include Yoshino Cherries (favoured street trees of Japan), Manchurian Pears, Paulownia, Wedding Cake Tree, Weeping Cherry, pink and
White flowering Dogwoods, Camellias, Daphne, Crab Apples, Maples and lots of roses.

Fruiting trees include Almond, Pinenut, Walnut, Pecan, Chestnut, Medlar, Persimmon, Pomegranate, Olive, cold climate Macadamia and citrus. Many plants have been given by family and friends (including Elky the Elkhorn), and hold sentimental value.

The garden is still in its infancy and I have lots of plans for the future including raised veggie gardens, anti-aviary, more fruit trees, chooks and Japanese inspired gardens.
“So many dreams, so little time.”
