Garden 1

30 Rosenthal Street

After searching through the many Southern Highland villages and settling on Bundanoon the owners were completely in awe of the magical views of the Morton National Park from the veranda of the property at 30 Rosenthal Avenue. Then there was the added bonus of a classical restored 1917 timber house and the stunning, cool climate garden designed in 2003 in the French formal style by the late Karen Hutchens.

Home to 28 pleached limes on a converted tennis court with fishpond & gazebo; the garden also contains many hydrangeas, hellebores, roses and bulbs. There is a magnificent hedge of white rhododendrons and well-established new and old deciduous trees scattered around the property.

Some new projects include a perennial bank, replacing hundreds of day lilies, additions to the woodland area on the southern border (which has been particularly challenging in this dry year) and on the western side beneath 8 x 150 year old Monterey Cypress under planting with hydrangeas, sedum & agapanthus.   An espalier fruit hedge joins the immaculate vegetable garden with its revamped out buildings.

The owners are often asked if they do all the gardening ourselves; the answer is yes including almost 1 km of cherry laurel, buxus & sasanqua hedging, lawns and maintenance. “We get the greatest joy from walking around the garden every morning planning what to do. We find it all very fulfilling and therapeutic. We see ourselves as caretakers for this lovely garden”.
